### #weeknotes ### What are #weeknotes ? Weeknotes are a great way for me to reflect on my week. I publish them in public because I believe it’s worth spreading our learnings to others. ### Personal stuff Currently Reading On the reading front, it’s been quite interesting. I finished **Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing**. It was a bit of a departure from my usual reads. A friend who’s recently discovered the joy of reading recommended it. I wanted to follow along and have a chat about it with them. It was a pleasant and gentle read, definitely something different. I’ve also started a couple of new books. I’m halfway through [[The Lamb by Lucy Rose]] and thoroughly enjoying the rather wild ride of folksy horror. It’s gory. It’s gripping. I’ve also reading **The Mercy of God’s**. Being a big fan of The Expanse series from last year, I was keen to see what this new space exploration story had in store. So far, so good. A practical note on the reading front – I’ve realised we’re in need of more book storage in our home library. We’ve completely run out of space, and it’s starting to impact how much I enjoy spending time reading in there. Something I need to fix. We’ve started reading at our local coffee shop on a Sunday morning, a relaxing start to a Sunday. ![](https://jesswritesthings.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/image-2.png?w=768) #### Hobbies This Week It’s been a week filled with some fun games. Sunday: Me and Aurelia played **Dorf**. It’s become our go-to cute cooperative game for a relaxed afternoon. We unlocked new tiles and points scoring methods for our campaign, lots of fun ![A board game showing Dorf, a tile based collaborative board game](https://jesswritesthings.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/image.png?w=768) `Dorf, a tile based collaborative board game` Thursday evening I managed to get some games of **Sorcery**. I really enjoy this game, the mechanics and the artwork are fantastic ![Sorcery, a card game showing various cards on a battlefield](https://jesswritesthings.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/image-1.png?w=768) `Sorcery, a fantastic card game` Friday was **Magic the Gathering** night with our usual group. A good friend is coming along for the first time, which will be fun Saturday we’ll have another board game day with friends, and a little seaside walk too ### Work Update Some good news from work – I was awarded employee of the month! Apparently, I received the most votes ever for one person, which was quite a surprise. The last 7 weeks in this job have flown by. I’m enjoying the work, although being an employee again still feels strange at times, particularly after several years of freelancing. My client is great, and I believe in the work they’re doing. It’s also refreshing to be working outside of the government sector, even for a few months. Being part of a scale-up means that not everything will always run perfectly, and that’s part of the fun. It’s part of the growth process. If things become too comfortable, it likely means we’re not growing enough. Interestingly, my fitness tracker data indicates a significant increase in my body’s stress levels on days I’m in the office. My **Oura ring** reports a 60-90% increase in stress. While I do enjoy meeting people in person, I suspect that the cognitive load of masking my neurodivergent ADHD brain for extended periods in the office environment is contributing to this physical stress, even if I don’t consciously feel it at the time. **New Home Office Space** The new office is nearing completion, and I’ve been busy putting up artwork. I added a couple of new pieces this week, which is helping to create a more complete and pleasant environment to work in. **New Phone** Finally, I’ve made a change with my phone. My iPhone battery had reached the end of its life, and the Apple ecosystem wasn’t quite working for me anymore. After a three-year break, I’ve switched back to Android with a **Nothing 3a (Pro)**. It’s only been a few days, but I’m quite impressed with it so far. You can find my other weeknotes here #weeknotes
