I've challenged myself to pickup and read each Stephen King book, but only from charity shops or second hand from friends. However, I listened to this book via Audiobook rather than reading the physical book, as the 1153 pages were too intimidating to hold in my hand! Let's start with the basics; an accident in a virology lab left most of the USA (/ the world?) dead. The influenza disease was colloquially known as Captain Trips, killing more than ~95-99% of the population. We follow multiple perspectives throughout the book as society collapses and, finally, attempts to rebuild. There's horror in the book but and not all of it is supernatural, the collapse of civilisation leads many survivors into dark places. The audiobook was a whacking 47 hours and 47 minutes! In my opinion, this book would have done well as a mini series of two or three books. Alas, that's not how Stephen King wants to tell his stories. I'd recommend this book, it's a solid 4/5 maybe even a 4.5 for the right reader in the right headspace. ----- You can find out more about the book on [StoryGraph](https://beta.thestorygraph.com/books/56542dfc-b049-4d7b-a060-c5c4f0ec95b5). I’m trying to push myself as both a reader and a writer by writing a review for the books I've read. #books #bookreview
