I adore the world building of The Expanse by James A Corey. I first stumbled into the mega space odyssey via the Amazon Prime TV show, and it had me hooked. After finding out the TV show was based on the series of novels, I read all nine (9!) at the speed of light.
Since The Expanse, the author(s) have been quietly beavering away on a brand new series - New world, new characters, new strife. I immediately downloaded the audiobook when I heard it existed!
It starts at breakneck speed with a team of scientists whose world is conquered by aliens. The Expanse didn't have aliens - a potentially controversial take? - and I'm thankful the author(s) built a whole new world for this new alien focused story to exist in.
I enjoyed the small nods to real world science whilst keeping it sci-fi. The next book hopefully releases later this year, potentially around August if they follow the well trodden 'one per year' cadence.
I'd recommend this book, it's a solid 4/5 maybe even a 4.5 for the right reader in the right headspace.

I’m trying to push myself as both a reader and a writer by writing a review for the books I've read.
