In true devourer fashion, I've already devoured Cixin Liu's outstanding Remembrance of Earth's Past trilogy; [The Three Body Problem](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/055a34a1-c9a0-44f7-a4ad-86766465eca2), [The Dark Forest](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/5136e9ae-3423-48d8-8b76-d43867d3b202), and [Deaths End](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/8432c134-4564-4f8c-8422-edcf63778e58). Fill yourself up with those books first.
Devourer is a short novella which starts with a weird crystalline structure floating through the depths of space, arriving in our solar system with one repeating message of despair - “The Devourer approaches!”.
The novella builds on Cixin Liu's wonderful ability to swing us between 'all is lost' terror and terrific optimism, something I loved about the trilogy.
If you've read any amount of the original trilogy, I'd recommend reading this novella.

I’m trying to push myself as both a reader and a writer this year by writing a review for the books I've read. You can find all the books I've read this year on [[2025 reading]].
