I've challenged myself to pickup and read each Stephen King book, but only from charity shops or second hand from friends. I felt like I'm always seeing his books in the most random locations, including the smallest village in the middle of nowhere on a Scottish island, thus this challenge was born. Billy Summers is a crime novel, there's no spooky going on or creatures from other realms in the night. It was refreshing to read something from Stephen King that didn't slip into his usual tropes or trodden paths. Stephen King's world building and character arc skills shine through in this story. It had it's own twists and turns, a few unexpected too which was fun as the reader. I was invested in the story throughout. At 517 pages I do think this story could have been split into a series of books, but that's just not Stephen King's style. It's worth slogging through the 500+ pages, as they start to zip fast from about a third of the way in. I'd recommend this book, it's a solid 3/5 maybe even a 3.5 for the right reader in the right headspace. ----- You can find out more about the book on [StoryGraph](https://beta.thestorygraph.com/book_reviews/0248b0fc-6762-4df8-b7a1-7ba45703e92f). I’m trying to push myself as both a reader and a writer by writing a review for the books I've read. #books #bookreview
