This is the third book in the [Dungeon Crawler Carl series](https://app.thestorygraph.com/series/1203060). I listened to this on Audiobook, as I'm obsessed by [Jeff Hays](https://app.thestorygraph.com/authors/71167c88-e368-47f6-8a52-3850bb700b67) narration. I personally prefer my literary role playing game (LitRPG) books to be audio based, it helps me feel more involved in the story. This was my first book of 2026, which I consider a success as it's a pretty massive ~17 hour audiobook! I mostly listened to this whilst cleaning up our house prior to it's sale, shipping our possessions to various charity shops, and commuting to different last minute adventures. It was the perfect story to escape to. The story opens with the crawlers facing the fourth floor of the dungeon, dubbed 'The Iron Tangle'. Trains and subways spread around the map, contorting through impossibly tight locations. The trains are overflowing with monsters, the railway stations aren't safe either, and their exit is hard to find. The crawlers now have sponsors, and the loot they receive keeps getting better. Carl receives a suspected dud prize, an anarchist's cookbook, but there's more to behold there. The world building in this book was a bit lacking, mostly due to the location itself not really allowing for much of that. I'd have liked to see more character development of Carl and Donut, hopefully there's more of that in the next book - which I've eagerly started on already. Overall, I'd give this book 4.5/5. You can find this book [here on Storygraph](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/6372e75e-19d0-40e9-83c7-b23bca60ea24), and here's some of the other books I've read this year ([[!2026 reading]]).
