I’ve always been a reader, and 2024 was a big reading year for me. I finished 56 books this year. The total came to 20,242 pages! I’ve tracked it all in StoryGraph ([link](https://jesswritesthings.com/2025/01/02/my-2024-reading-journey-56-books/www.thestorygraph.com)), and here’s my StoryGraph profile ([link](https://app.thestorygraph.com/profile/jessbuildstech)). For those interested, I wrote a mid-year check in ([link](https://jesswritesthings.com/2024/07/12/mid-2024-reading-list/)). ==Let’s recap my reading in 2024== January and April were my top months for the number of books I finished (11). I read the most pages in January (2706 pages). However, I was more consistently reading towards the end of the year. During that time, I was devouring all 9 books in The Expanse series. I’d like to get better at consistency in 2025, it’s one of my ‘themes’ for the year. ![](https://jesswritesthings.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/screenshot-2025-01-02-at-11.10.06.png?w=1024) The mood has changed as the year progressed. I enjoy spooky stories, although I can’t stand spooky horror movies, I’m just too scared. I’ve learned to love Spooky, horror, and thriller books. ![](https://jesswritesthings.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/screenshot-2025-01-02-at-11.04.44.png?w=1024) I spent most of this year flying through Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror. In 2025, I want to read more Science Fiction and Horror. I also want to explore Classics since there are big gaps for me in that genre. ![](https://jesswritesthings.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/screenshot-2025-01-02-at-11.18.03.png?w=1024) I’ve shared the full list of books read in 2024 below, but first a few highlights worth calling out: - Anything by [Claire Keegan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claire_Keegan) – Me and my wife enjoy reading these short stories and discussing them in depth, as they really stuck with us. We’ve gifted several of her books to friends this year too. - [The Expanse series](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Expanse_\(novel_series\)) by [James S. A. Corey](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_S._A._Corey) – I enjoyed the Amazon Prime TV show but adored the books. I found myself truly lost in their world. - [The Three-Body Problem](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Three-Body_Problem_\(novel\)) By [Cixin Liu](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liu_Cixin) – A fantastic hard Science Fiction series. It is full of physics, time travel, and human behavior. - [Six Stories series](https://www.goodreads.com/series/223413-six-stories) by [Matt Wesolowski](https://www.instagram.com/mattjwesolowski/?hl=en) – These served as my gateway back into Horror and Spooky stories this year, and I’m ever so thankful. The series is approachable and the stories left me with a chill. Instead, I’m going to push myself to: - Finish series of books: 33/56 books were part of a Series in 2024. I love finding myself lost in an authors world, so I’m going to continue this trend wherever possible. - Share what I’ve read and what I think about it. It’s time to push myself. I need to not just read more, but also share more. #books #blog
